Traveling used to be a luxury for most of us; but now a lot of people have included traveling as one of their top priorities in life. I am not proud to say this, but before I started exploring my own country, Philippines, I have first visited other countries like USA, Hongkong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Korea.
During our teen years, my siblings and I would always plan our summer vacation visiting other countries rather than domestic places as it would be more practical to do so after comparing airfares and land arrangements. We always chose Hongkong over Cebu or Palawan back then because travel expenses were almost the same. Whenever we got to travel and meet people from different places and culture, they would often ask about the Philippines, its safety and what are the places to visit or see. I would be embarrassed to answer because I wasn’t sure what to say and what places to suggest when I haven’t even explored my own country either.
Our country has so many wonderful places especially beaches to visit but it used to be expensive to explore them. Thanks to advance technology, everything is easier and accessible nowadays. Through the internet, our dream destination is just one click away. We can select or choose our destination, book our flights, hotel accommodations, transfers and tours directly. Safety and quality service have been in our government’s top priority too. There have been continuous improvements in modes of transportation and most of our airports have been renovated. Tourism in the Philippines has improved a lot over the years, that’s why I have decided to explore my country more whenever I have the time and opportunity.
If we have friends/families from other countries with a limited time who would love to visit Philippines , these are My 8 Favorite Destinations :
1. Manila – Intramuros in Old Manila is the home of Fort Santiago, Manila Cathedral and San Agustin Church. Rizal Park, Malate, Manila Baywalk, Museums, Chinatown in Binondo, Quezon City Memorial Circle, The Fort in Taguig and Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan City are only few of the interesting places I would suggest to see when in Manila.

2. Cebu – Of all the many beautiful places in Cebu, Oslob has been my favorite so far. I wasn’t into outdoor and water activities until I got the chance to explore Oslob. The whale shark watching is a once in a lifetime experience that should be included in your bucket list. Don’t be scared of these gentle giants as guidelines are being imposed not only for your safety, but also for the protection of these beautiful creatures. After the whale shark watching experience, Tumalog Falls would be a good stop to appreciate more the beauty of nature.
3. Bohol – I love going back to Bohol, not only because of Chocolate Hills, old churches, beautiful beach, butterfly farm and the tarsiers, but also because of its warm and friendly people.
4. Boracay – Yes, this island is very touristy; but for me, Boracay, known for its white sand, is the best in the world when it comes to beaches. I would never get tired of going back to this paradise.
5. Tagaytay City – The sight of Taal is like a perfect painting that comforts me. There are many activities and restaurants to explore too. Going to The Pink Sisters Convent is something I can’t miss whenever I’m in Tagaytay. Since Tagaytay is just less than 2 hours away from Manila, I always consider this destination for spending quality time with one of my kids (See article Traveling with one kid at a time.).
6. Baguio City – The Summer Capital of the Philippines and the “City of Pines”. Camp John Hay, Mines View, Wright Park, Burnham Park, Teacher’s Camp, Baguio Cathedral, Session Road and The Mansion are some of the places not to be missed when in Baguio. Located just 30 minutes from Baguio City is the Strawberry Farm in La Trinidad, Benguet for an unforgettable strawberry picking experience.

7. Vigan – I love the beautiful and preserved Spanish colonial and Asian architecture in Vigan. Walking along Calle Crisologo is like stepping back in time. Trying their local delicacies is a must.

8. Banaue, Ifugao – The famous Banaue Rice Terraces and commonly referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World” can be found in the province of Ifugao. The view is relaxing and breathtaking.
There are so much to see and do in the Philippines. It is beautiful and unique not only because of the places and food but most of all, because of its amazing people.
